Suikaen (真) Shin Chasen Matcha Whisk
BASARA is proud to offer chasen crafted by Suikaen, the renowned tea whisk workshop led by 25th-generation master craftsman Yasaburo Tanimura.
For more than 500 years, Takayama in Nara Prefecture has been recognized as the birthplace of Japan’s finest tea whisks. It is here that the Suikaen “Shin” Chasen is still meticulously handcrafted by artisans dedicated to preserving this centuries-old tradition.
Each chasen is carved from a single piece of carefully selected bamboo and shaped entirely by hand. Its finely crafted tines create a smooth, delicate foam while bringing out the full aroma, sweetness, and character of matcha.
At BASARA, we believe that exceptional matcha deserves exceptional tools.
A chasen is more than a utensil—it is an embodiment of Japanese craftsmanship and tea culture. The simple act of preparing matcha becomes a moment of mindfulness, connecting tradition, craftsmanship, and daily ritual.
Before first use, soak the whisk in warm water for 1–2 minutes to allow the delicate tines to soften and open naturally. This prepares the bamboo for whisking and helps create a beautiful, creamy bowl of matcha.
